Career Services promotes best practices when working with students, alumni, faculty, staff and employers.
Create a strategic marketing plan with Employer Relations
Career Services encourages all employers to have a “3 touch” approach before hosting on-campus interviews. This can be any combination of our “Services to Employers” that can include, but is not limited to information sessions, co-presenting in workshops, Practice Interview Programs, Career Fair participation, etc. Career Services will assist you in tailoring a plan to fit your individual hiring needs.
Career Fair Success
Engagement, engagement, engagement! Have your booth be as interactive as possible. Videos, websites, banners, displays, and give-a-ways attract students and alumni to your table. Properly staff your table with at least 2 recruiters to be able to speak to students. It is important that your organization showcases diversity. Be as welcoming to freshman looking to network with you as to alumni with years of experience.
Make the most out of your visit
Career Services welcomes the opportunity to have employers participate in more than one on campus recruiting event per visit to campus. This can include on campus interviews, informational interview, class presentations, co-presenting in workshops, etc.
Branding on Campus
Do our students know who you are? Can they refer their friends to your company? Get involved on campus! Sponsor events; advertise on our main Career Services website, Facebook, Twitter and Linked in. Host an “employer day” on campus. The possibilities are endless.
Search for FIU alumni within your company and bring them to campus when you recruit. They will serve as a strong link between FIU and your organization.
Attend non-recruiting events
Networking events, informal meet and greets and speaking to students in brown bag sessions are great ways to outreach to students and interact with them in different ways.
Create an internship program
Interns are a great way to “interview” students for an entire semester. A strong internship program can create a pipeline to your organization. After their internship, students will be able to effectively brand your organization word of mouth to other students. Career Services can assist you throughout your development and implementation process.
