Career Closet

Become a supporter of the Career Closet by donating professional clothing to students in need. Career and Talent Development will conduct a clothing drive once a semester to increase inventory for the Career Closet. Interested in becoming a Career Closet sponsor, please call the Career and Talent Development office at 305-348-2423 or email 

Donation Requirements:
  • Clothing must be dry cleaned
  • Is of great to excellent quality
  • Purchased in the last five years

Lunchtime sessions

Are you an employer interested in providing a workshop to students? This is a perfect way for you to engage with students in a different platform. This is for the student that might not be able to visit you during an on campus visit. Sign up today and reserve your slot.

Employers are able to participate in Virtual Information Sessions that offer students a workshop component, company profile, and positions available. Once you sign-up we can discuss details over the phone.

FIU Panther Shadows

The FIU Panther Shadows program is a one day structured program that is designed to connect FIU students and alumni to Host Sites to observe and learn about professional roles related to majors and industries of interest. The FIU Panther Shadows Hosts do not provide academic credit or monetary compensation; but instead provide an opportunity for participants to observe and network with professional staff.

  • Assist students in gaining knowledge that aligns with NACE Career Readiness Competencies

  • Program outline

    Hosts are invited to plan shadowing experiences for a full workday to allow participants to see what a typical day is like in the selected profession or career. Participants are not allowed to work or assist in any work since they are not being compensated with academic credit or monetary compensation. However, participants are encouraged to learn by asking, taking notes, and networking when appropriate.

    Hosts can also integrate several activities in the Panther Shadows opportunity in order to allow for more flexibility for staff and to promote company brand and culture:

    • Orientation on company, culture, career opportunities, and agenda outline
    • Networking breakfast or lunch can be provided with employees and participants
    • Informational interviews can be conducted prior to beginning of the shadow
    • Provide guided facility or building tour
    • Allow observations, shadowing, and questions
    • Offer meet and greets with executive staff and knowledge experts

  • Program details
    • In order to serve as a Host Site for the FIU Panther Shadows program you must have an employer account on Handshake.
      • Do you already have an account in Handshake? Make sure to add Florida International University as one of your schools.
      • Don’t have a Handshake account? Register today. Once registered, you can post your Panther Shadows:
      • In your home tab, select “Post a Job”, select your job type is “Experiential Learning”
      • Label your job shadow: “FIUShadows: POSITION TITLE SHADOWING”
        • Templates on Job Shadows are provided here
      • Go through Details, Preferences, and submit!
    • Contact Elery Rojas, Assistant Director of Internships at to notify of interest of the FIU Panther Shadows Program
    • Begin creating your FIU Panther Shadows opportunity before applications open (Dates change each semester).
      • You are invited to host several participants if you have the ability to, as well as, participate on several days of the FIU Panther Shadows week;
      • We will notify you of selected matches to your shadow program 
    • Host Site will need to notify participants of Day of Details/Welcome Email/Call
    • Panther Shadows opportunities are hosted! Participants will report directly to Host Sites as detailed on their respective agendas.

Information Sessions

Information Sessions provide employers with an opportunity to educate our students and alumni about their organization’s work environment, culture, interview process, and career paths. For employers looking to hold an information session at Florida International University, please register for an Information Session on your Handshake account, or contact the Employer Relations team at 305-348-2423.

Employer Spotlight

Looking for an opportunity to showcase your company and career/internship opportunities to the Career and Talent Development? Sign up for an Employer Spotlight Session, held directly before each staff meeting at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC) campus throughout the fall and spring semesters.  Employers are given the opportunity to speak with our staff about their company, including their team culture, open positions, and the type of students and alumni they seek. Resume Fest

Resume Fest is an all-day interactive event for students and alumni to interact with employers and have their resumes and cover letters professionally critiqued. Employers provide students with tips on interview preparation, networking and engaging with employers at Career Fair. Resume Fest takes place a few days prior to Career Fair and Career EXPO. Employer Institute

The Employer Institute is an opportunity to engage new and existing recruiters in a unique educational and training experience which will allow them to maximize their engagement with Career and Talent Development department, while meeting their recruitment goals and gaining a better understanding of FIU.
