Panther Career Readiness Module

FIU, alongside our Board of Governors and Trustees, wants YOU to be Panther Career Ready!  For that purpose, we have built a pathway for you to begin the process of getting prepared for your career from day 1!  Starting with your first day, you will have access to an engaging module that will guide you through.

This is a requirement for all entering students, a hold will be placed in the first spring semester after your enrollment, and you will be unable to enroll for summer and fall courses. While required, this is an outstanding opportunity for all our panthers to hit the ground running and start building your career readiness foundation from day one!  

Why should you become Panther Career Ready?

The National Association of Colleges and Employers or NACE, defines career readiness as a foundation from which to demonstrate requisite core competencies that broadly prepare the college-educated for success in the workplace and lifelong career management.

For new college graduates, career readiness is key to ensuring successful entrance into the workforce. Career readiness is the foundation upon which a successful career is launched.

Panther Career Readiness Requirements

In order to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from FIU, students must fulfill the requirements set forth in the Panther Career Readiness Module, which include

1. Register with your Career Center by claiming your Handshake Account and completing your profile upon entering the university

2. Complete the Panther Career Readiness Module in FIU Develop, FIU's gateway to online professional development 

3. Accessing the MyFloridaFuture (SUS Dashboard) to research salary data, compare earnings based on academic degree and assess the impact of graduate school on future earnings to help students with their career decision making

Instructions for accessing the Panther Career Readiness Module in FIU Develop:

  1. Login to FIU Develop with your FIU student credentials.
  2. Search for Panther Career Readiness Module in your Dashboard.
  3. Begin course.

All active incoming students who are required to complete the modules will be automatically enrolled, and it may take up to 24 hours after enrollment for the course to appear.

  • Panther Career Readiness Module Hold

    Students will have to complete this during their first year of enrollment to avoid having a hold will be placed in the first spring semester after your enrollment, and you will be unable to enroll for summer and fall courses. All students entering FIU in the Summer 2022 and Fall 2022 semesters must complete these requirements before the start of the Summer 2023 and Fall 2023 registration period in March 2023. Students will have access to the Panther Career Readiness Module in their FIU Develop account starting from August 1, 2022.

  • What is Career Readiness?

  • Why do I have to complete the Panther Career Readiness Module?

    Governor DeSantis signed HB 1261 into law establishing a mechanism to connect university undergraduate students to career information.  The procedures as set forth in the bill will require undergraduate students to do the following during their first year of enrollment. 

    • Registering with the university’s career center 
    • Completion of a career readiness module provided by the career center
    • Be directed to the State University System dashboard – MyFloridaFuture, which presents the academic discipline's salary information at the 1-, 5- and 10-year mark.
    • Affirmatively indicate that they have been provided with the required information and understand the wage prospects for their chosen major

    The established procedures must also include placing a hold on student registration before the end of the first year of each student’s enrollment if the requirements have not been met.   

    Undergraduate students as defined in the legislation include full-time and part-time, degree-seeking, first-time-in-college students, transfer students, and readmitted students. 

  • Where do I find the Panther Career Readiness Module?
    The Panther Career Readiness Module is located through FIU Develop.
  • What is Handshake?

    Career and Talent Development (CTD) at FIU has partnered with Handshake - a modern career development platform - to be your one-stop shop for launching your career. 

    Handshake offers new features, enabling you to:  

    • Access personalized job recommendations based on your major and interests 
    • Register for Career Fairs and network with employers 
    • Manage on-campus interviews with top companies 
    • Schedule appointments with your career advisors 

    Please note, all FIU students’ accounts are preloaded into the Handshake system. Please go to Handshake to claim your account with your FIU email. 

  • Why do I have to activate my Handshake Account?

    In order to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from FIU, students must fulfill the requirements set forth in the Panther Career Readiness Module, which include: 

    Register with your Career Center by claiming your Handshake Account and completing your profile upon entering the university.

    In addition, you will have access to many career development resources and opportunities to assist in achieving your career goals. 

  • How do I activate my Handshake account?
    Steps to activation:
    1. Visit fiu.joinhandshake.com 
    2. Click: Florida International University SSO login and enter your FIU credentials 
    3. Check your email and “Confirm Email” 
    4. Complete profile by adding work experience, organizations and skills
