Recruiting Interns

What is an internship?

An internship is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. Internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent (National Association of Colleges and Employers – NACE).

Internship Week

Internship Week is held every Fall, early in the semester, for students of all majors. Internship Week is an exciting opportunity for FIU students to gain valuable insights and resources for their internship journey. This week features a variety of programs and events designed to help students search for and prepare for internships.

This is a great opportunity for recruiters who are looking to fill their internship positions to meet and engage with our FIU students. Interested in presenting and recruiting at the Fall 2026 Internship Week? Programming will open In Spring/Summer 2026. If you have any questions about participating in FIU’s Internship Week, please contact the Employer Relations Team at career@fiu.edu. We look forward to you joining us at the next Internship Week.

Micro-Internships

Micro-Internships offer your organization immediate access to driven FIU students and recent graduates who can provide professional support on a wide variety of short-term projects. These paid assignments are designed to mirror the type of work typically given to interns or entry-level hires, giving your team the extra capacity it needs without adding additional administrative responsibilities or complexities. Projects can be completed any time of the year and usually require between 5 to 40 hours of work, with deadlines ranging from one week to one month after they begin.

Beyond simply getting tasks done, Micro-Internships are a strategic way to connect with emerging talent in a flexible and cost-effective manner. By engaging students and recent alumni through meaningful project work, your organization can strengthen its early talent pipeline and build relationships with individuals eager to demonstrate their skills, explore career opportunities, and grow their networks. FIU’s Parker Dewey platform makes it easy to post projects and connect directly with these highly motivated candidates.

Hosting an intern

As you think about hosting an intern, it is important to make sure your organization is ready. Start by reviewing this checklist to see where your organization/department stands. While it is not required that you have a check in each box, it is good to begin thinking about ethical and legal standards.
